When Does an IRB Get Involved in a Clinical Research Study?

Every study must have IRB involvement in order to protect patient rights and ensure patient safety. Many researchers are accustomed to working with IRBs but might not take into consideration that an IRB is selected very early in the study startup process. The reason IRBs are selected early is to review and hopefully approve protocols before any site can be selected.
