In this video, Don answers a viewer’s question on what an IRB (Institutional Review Board) is and what its purpose is in a clinical trial. In short an IRB’s role is to protect the safety and rights of clinical trial participants for a given clinical trial. Each trial has an IRB assigned to it. The IRB is independent of the study doctors, pharmaceutical companies and CRO’s running the given trial. The IRB is in charge of ensuring that all trials are conducted in an ethical manner and look out for the safety of the clinical trial participants.
