Many research clinics, in their attempts to be compliant with the various clinical trial protocols that they are conducting, may ask their new participants to come in to the clinic “fasting” or not eating since the previous night. While this is necessary for obtaining certain lab values from the blood draws of the study participants, it could also be potentially dangerous if the study participant has a medical condition that may be exacerbated if they fast.
