A lot of people tell us that when they look at an informed consent form they get a little intimidated. While these forms may certainly look intimidating, the clinical trial participant should understand that the purpose of the Informed Consent Form is actually for the drug company sponsoring the study to disclose all known benefits and risks of the trial. Therefore, the study participant should understand that when they sign the form, they are not entering into a contract, and are not obligated to do anything. In fact, they could quit the study at any time, for any reason. The purpose of signing the form is merely to acknowledge that the study participant understands that the clinical trial has benefits and risks.
