It is very possible for someone who is participating in a clinical trial to experience a side effect, otherwise known as an adverse event from the study drug. While many of these side effects may be known and included in the Informed Consent Form, many are still unknown. In fact, one of the reasons why these clinical trials are done is to make sure that any new side effects are discovered before the drug ever makes it out on the market. If you are experiencing a side effect, don’t panic. Try to figure out if the side effect is expected from the drug. Also, contact your research clinic immediately and let them know what is going on. Obviously, if it’s an emergency, you may want to seek immediate medical attention. Make sure you let all parties involved know that you are participating in a clinical trial.
