I read an article in a popular clinical trial trade journal about how some research clinics may have excellent clinical staff, but very few, if any, people who are proficient in running a business. Don and I both think it is imperative that every research clinic be run efficiently in order to ensure that the clinic will remain in business and stay capable of serving its study volunteers and pharmaceutical sponsors. Don and I also believe that asking the study doctors to also run the business of the clinical trials may also be somewhat inefficient, and we recommend that the doctors train someone on staff to handle all business related tasks.
