In this video, I was blessed with the opportunity to interview Roberto Abadie about his new book, “The Professional Guinea Pig” as well as get some of his thoughts regarding Phase 1 clinical trials involving healthy volunteers. His biggest issue is the fact that Phase 1 clinical trial participants are motivated ONLY by money, and often times do numerous clinical trials in order to subsidize an actual income.
It is a very interesting and eye opening interview, and gives us all a unique perspective into the world of Phase 1 studies. Roberto and I both agree that Phase 2-4 clinical trials are very different from Phase 1 studies, but Phase 1 studies give ALL clinical trials a bad reputation. Roberto suggests a clinical trials registry, where all Phase 1 participants will be entered into a database in order to avoid enrolling the same individuals into too many studies. What are your thoughts?
